Don’t Call it “Darwinism”

Evolutionary biology owes much to Charles Darwin, whose discussions of common descent and natural selection provide the foundations of the discipline. But evolutionary biology has expanded well beyond its foundations to encompass many theories and concepts unknown in the 19th century. The term “Darwinism” is, therefore, ambiguous and misleading. Compounding the problem of “Darwinism” is the hijacking of the term by creationists to portray evolution as a dangerous ideology—an “ism”—that has no place in the science classroom. When scientists and teachers use “Darwinism” as synonymous with evolutionary biology, it reinforces such a misleading portrayal and hinders efforts to present the scientific standing of evolution accurately. Accordingly, the term “Darwinism” should be abandoned as a synonym for evolutionary biology.

Darwin, Dover, ‘Intelligent Design’ and textbooks

ID (‘intelligent design’) is not science, but a form of creationism; both are very different from the simple theological proposition that a divine Creator is responsible for the natural patterns and processes of the Universe. Its current version maintains that a ‘Designer’ must intervene miraculously to accomplish certain natural scientific events. The verdict in the 2005 case Kitzmiller, et al. v. Dover School District, et al. (in Harrisburg, PA, U.S.A.) was a landmark of American jurisprudence that prohibited the teaching of ID as science, identified it as religiously based, and forbade long-refuted ‘criticisms of evolution’ from introduction into public school classes. Much of the science of the trial was based on biochemistry; biochemists and other scientists have several important opportunities to improve scientific literacy and science education in American public schools (‘state schools’) by working with teachers, curriculum developers and textbook writers.

Well, the guy, and Denyse, seem to ignore that Kosovars (muslims) are secessionists from Serbia (christian orthodox) and that religious leaders such as bishop Artemije are calling to boycott Kosovars.

This is Europe, 21st century, and religious leaders and communities are eager to occupy a primary place in politics, chose ways of life for populations and frontiers for countries. And Denyse ignores why creationists are considered as a threat for human rights…
You know lady, religious leaders + politics is not very faraway from = theocracy; they must dream about that every single night.

A year ago, French people was accusing me for being alarmist for supporting the hearing and voting for a resolution of the European Council against creationism teaching in science classrooms in Europe, including the fake science termed Intelligence Design instead of Creation Science. They thought that it would be impossible for France to have to face any attempt against laicity. They have to deal with a president who expect more spirituality in their life
